All Lives Matter

These days, apart from the news about the Covid-19 and the awful number of people dying from it, we mostly hear about George Floyd's tragic death. We also, often see the "Black Lives Matter" movement in full swing as people all across the globe are protesting for George Floyd and all the other African-Americans, who died due to police brutality. Some protest in the form of a peaceful march, some by painting their walls, and a few courageous ones that are sitting outside the White House in Washington D.C.

Sadly there's just a small percentage of people out there that do not let racism get in the way of relationships. The color does not matter for them, the status, the nationality, nothing is important for them but just purity in heart and trust. These are the kind of people who make all ethnicities feel equal and do not degrade them for being different. When I heard about George Floyd's devastating death and the way he was murdered, the first thought that struck me was how heartless and ruthless people can become. They can kill because they feel a particular group of people is inferior to theirs and are therefore dispensable.

The reason behind Floyd's murder was that the cashier, whom George bought a pack of cigarettes from, believed that a counterfeit bill was being used. Floyd had refused to return the pack of cigarettes when challenged by the clerk. He was killed when a White Police Officer, David Chauvin knelt on his neck for almost NINE minutes. He was handcuffed facing down to the street and was heard BEGGING to the police to release him but the officer had absolutely no sympathy for him. It was the last three minutes when Floyd had stopped breathing and even then, none of the cops there had tried to revive him. For this murder, Officer David Chauvin was charged with second and third-degree murder and second-degree manslaughter.

His last words captured "I can't breathe" are, like, imprinted in my mind. The image of the cop kneeling on his neck is engraved in my mind and will probably take a lifetime to diminish. The arrogance, brutality, and above all the calmness on the face of the criminal officer is a slap in the face of the American Government. It was like he did not care that he was killing an innocent man in front of the world to see. As if he knew he would get away with it. The pieces of evidence show that he was not even remotely concerned that he was being recorded.

What does this tell us? It reminds us of the harsh reality of humanity, how some people can be heartless monsters like that disgraceful officer. Mr. Floyd's murder was caught on camera and, therefore, found it's way to the international news and has lead to massive protests going on. the ray of hope in this is that I see many whites standing alongside blacks, which tells me that more people are not racist and are not afraid to stand up for justice and I hope to be one of such people.

I truly believe that "All Lives Matter." I would have the same opinion if it was a white man killed by a black officer.
